Why I Built Unleash: The Story Behind a Broken Pet Care System
I didn’t set out to build a tech company.
I set out to protect the one thing that mattered most to me.
Like most pet owners, I thought the system worked. I trusted that my dog’s medical history was safe, stored somewhere sensible, and available when needed. I trusted that the vets could see everything. I trusted that if something ever went wrong, the right information would be there.
I was wrong.
The Moment I Realised the System Was Broken
It started with something small. A vaccination record I couldn’t find. A treatment note I thought I’d saved. An email I knew existed but couldn’t locate. I started piecing together my dog’s history from screenshots, memory, paper files, and gut instinct.
And suddenly, I realised how fragile it all was.
- Your pet’s entire life can end up scattered across:
- Different vet clinics
- Old email chains
- Paper folders
- Apps that don’t talk to each other
- Systems owned by companies, not by you
And if you move clinics? If you move countries? If you lose paperwork?
You’re back to zero.
That’s when the question hit me:
Why is this normal?
The Reality No One Talks About
The pet care system wasn’t built for pet owners. It was built around internal clinic systems, billing, and fragmented software.
- What that means in real life is:
- Records often can’t be easily shared between clinics
- Owners aren’t given real access or control
- Emergency vets don’t always have full history
- Important details are lost during transitions
- You’re forced to remember critical medical details under stress
This isn’t because vets don’t care. They care deeply.
This is a system problem, not a people problem.
And it hasn’t evolved.
Why This Felt Personal To Me
There are things you can rationalise. And then there are things that hit you somewhere deeper.
My dog isn’t “just a pet.” He’s family. He’s comfort. He’s safety. He’s love. He lived through life changes, moves, anxiety, growth — alongside me.
When I looked at how fragile his health records were, it didn’t feel like a tech problem.
It felt like a betrayal of trust.
We can track parcels in real-time across countries. But we can’t access a decade of our pet’s medical history in one place?
That didn’t sit right with me. 😤
The Idea That Became Unleash
Unleash wasn’t born in a boardroom. It wasn’t born from trend-chasing.
It was born from frustration, fear, and love.
- I imagined a world where:
- Your pet’s health history lives in one secure place
- You control who sees it
- Vets access complete, not fragmented, information
- You never panic-search for paperwork again
- Your pet’s story is protected, forever
That vision became Unleash.
Not just an app — but a shift in who holds power in pet healthcare.
This Isn’t About Replacing Vets — It’s About Supporting Them
I want to be very clear:
Unleash isn’t anti-vet. It isn’t anti-clinic.
It’s anti-fragmentation. Anti-outdated systems. Anti-confusion.
Vets deserve better tools. Owners deserve transparency. Pets deserve continuity of care.
When everyone has the full picture, outcomes improve.
It’s that simple.
What “Better” Actually Looks Like
- A better system means:
- No more begging clinics for old records
- No more lost histories
- No more repeating the same story again and again
- No more fear when moving clinics or countries
- No more gaps in care
It looks like clarity.
It feels like control.
It feels like safety.
Building Unleash Isn’t Easy — But It’s Necessary
This hasn’t been an easy journey.
There have been moments of doubt. Tech challenges. Financial stress. People telling me it’s too hard, too ambitious, too disruptive.
But here’s the truth:
If no one pushes this forward, it will stay broken.
And pets deserve better than that.
This Is About More Than Tech
This isn’t just a startup story.
It’s a story about love, responsibility, and refusing to accept “this is just how it is” when it comes to the lives we’re responsible for.
It’s about breaking systems that no longer serve us.
It’s about giving power back to the people who care the most.
It’s about building something that matters.
Why I’m Sharing This Now
I’m sharing this before Unleash is live. Before there’s a polished prototype. Before everything is perfect.
Because this story matters more than the features.
Unleash exists because the system failed the people who loved their pets the most.
And we’re done accepting broken.
The Future I’m Building
- I see a future where:
- Every pet has a lifelong health story
- Every owner feels calm, not confused
- Every vet has full context
- Every animal gets better care because of better information
That’s what I’m building.
That’s what Unleash stands for.
And we’re only just getting started.
